Energy Star Partnership
Neil Perone Homes is a proud builder of ENERGY STAR labeled homes.
We believe everyone benefits through continually improving energy resource management, and the environment benefits from reduced levels of related pollution. We are proud to offer services and products that may assist people who have committed to both the environmental and savings goals of ENERGY STAR.
ENERGY STAR was created to help consumers easily identify products, homes,
and buildings that save energy and money, and help protect the environment.
As the government-backed, trusted symbol for energy efficiency, the ENERGY
STAR label identifies highly efficient products and designates superior
energy performance in homes and buildings.
Energy Star Programs are managed by the local utility companies such
as CL&P, audited on site under the direction of the Environmental Protection
Agency (EPA). The EPA provides Qualified Builders with guidelines to achieve
certain levels of increased efficiencies in their homes. The results are
lower fuel bills for the consumers, lower energy demands on the utilities,
lower consumption of fossil fuels and a cleaner environment.
The following outlines the basic procedures employed by Neil Perone Homes
to achieve the Energy Star Certifications.
1. The exterior shell of the house is sealed. The exterior house
wrap seams are taped to reduce air penetration (most builders only staple
the house wrap). All windows flanges are taped with a rubberized tape
that blocks air and water penetration. All interior seams between the
plywood wall seams are caulked.
2. Insulation. Energy Star homes apply the insulation differently
and use added insulation in the attic areas. Wall insulation is applied
unfaced (THIS MEANS WITHOUT THE PAPER FACE). This is done to reduce the
compression of the insulation which reduces its efficiency and creates
pockets or gaps in the insulation. Then we install a poly vinyl sheet
over the exterior walls and to the ceiling below the attic . This poly
vinyl sheet blocks any air flow and reduces heat loss. We use R-19 insulation
in the walls and R-38 in the attic.
3. Heating System. We use a High Efficiency propane furnace. Our
efficiency rating is between 92-94% efficient. This is compared to an
average new oil furnace which can only deliver an 80% efficiency. We also
seal all major seams in the duct work with a mastic sealant .This seals
the ducts and reduces needless air leaks. The ductwork also receives an
insulating blanket with an R-8 factor. Gas furnaces do not require annual
cleaning like oil furnaces.
4. Windows All windows are Low E RATED GLASS FOR HIGHER EFFICIENCY.
5. Air Conditioners meet or exceed Energy Star Requirements. These
are the majority of the Energy Star requirements but not all of the requirements.
These added features will provide you with a more comfortable home and
save you on utility bills for the life of the home. All Energy Star Homes
are inspected by the local Utility during the construction process and
tested for efficiency prior to receiving a Certificate of Occupancy.
